About Lanarkshire Local Medical Committee

The GP Subcommittee has two main statutory functions:

  1. to provide advice on the operation of general medical services;

  2. to advise the Area Medical Committee. (The general function of the AMC is to advise the Health Board on the provision of NHS services.)

The Local Medical Committee deals with matters relating to the remuneration and conditions of service of doctors. These are generally referred to as medico-political.

In Lanarkshire, the two Committees are represented by the same office bearers and a single committee for both functions. One agenda contains both statutory and non-statutory items.
